Hi there, the names kenny. im new relatively new to the whole airsoft scene. im interested in buying an airsoft gun and im wondering if going for a gas powered pistol is a good option? how much of a hassle and how expensive is it to run? im quite fond of the TM desert eagle :D cause im insecure and need to prove something haha! Frickin' hell, Hamilton! Home of LOD!
GBB is the way to go definitely, but it also depends on how you want to use it. Skirmishing wise... Deset Eagle is fun, but can be very un-wiedly depending on your liking. Just ask Kenny1 @ Dirty.
Best way to go, have a feel first. Who knows you might prefer a hi-capa, P226, Glock over a Deset Eagle frame.
Summary: Don't buy shit until you see our shit, after which you will think is the shit and will do shit the way we do our shit! :D

Gas? Depends on what type of gas you use. Propane is usually used in NZ, I use around NZ$30's worth of propane per year with my stock TM P226R :)
If you plan on getting into the sport, once we have a game organised in H-town we'll invite you over. LOD is a bit hardcore on gears so recommend you don't buy anything and save up the dosh until you attend at least one of our games, because you'll need every $ you want to save up if you want to get everything right the first time. Also trademe is hardly the best place to get gears considering the markups.
We might have a bit of trouble organising a game for the next few weeks/months because of the shit weather and that winter is coming, but we'll try. In the mean time, hold on to your wallet.
We'll supply everything from vest to eye-protection for a newbie's first game, just have to bring yourself over and a pair of footwear with good ankle support.
It's easier to show you want we use instead of writing up a long-winded essay.

Amoki: There's a game at Southdown in the wind later on if your keen to come down to aucks :P
We're going to try and open up the bigger area and run a scenario around the place. Its massive enough for 30-40 people

sweet sounds good, cheers for the help amoki, i thought gas would be more expensive than that! yeah i was strollin through trade me and saw a tm glock with 2 mags for 50 bucks and thought that was pretty sweet so went for it, bad call???
If its a gas one. Not a bad call, depending on how badly buggered it is.
If its a springer, its pretty worthless :(

A metal m4 may set you back anything from $250ish for a junky clone though to $1000+ for something quality and heavily upgraded. I really do suggest going along to a LOD game and checking out the gear they are using first.
A suggestion would be grab some good comfy boots and a set of camouflage as first purchases if you have the spare cash, and hold off on other bits of kit until you get a chance to have a looksee.

my A&K M4 s-system cost about 250 from HK its apparently a really good gun from reviews that ive read and watched... just tighten everything when you get it...

Not a good idea. Some parts yes you need to tighten them but not excessively. Some parts no because they're not meant to be overtightened.
Also QC differs from Chinese guns to chinese guns: gun that you read off a review off some random site from the Net may not be the same as the lemon that you order off Hong Kong and sold to you by some company who wants you to pay more XXX to service the gun for you. So strongly recommend you get someone to have a look inside it first.
Just another reason to join LOD! Hahahahahah.

Hi Kenny,
It's actually a really good idea to get along to one of their games, I'm a LOD Newbie (as well as Minor) as well, and everybody told me to go along to the game, and I did.
It was freakin awesome :D

That was only for you Stef.It means a lot less Colts so we all figured you wouldnt mind either way.

Hi dude welcome to the forums.
I have only been playing Airsoft for about 3 months now and have most of my gear but defiantly go to a LOD game and have look and a try before you buy any gear.
I found its very different from what you think you like to what you actully do like.
I brought GBB desert eagle it very cool gun but straight away i found too heavy and bulky when your running around in the bush so I ended up buying a sig p266 as well.
Hope that help but anyway come to a game happy to let use my desert eagle of you want to try one out first.
You would have to come to the next TAT game but there is a few LOD guys coming down.

Hey Kenny,
Im a LOD newbie as well. Came along to check a game out a couple of months back and have received tons of help fro the LOD guys since then. Definitely dont go buying too much, if anything at all until you attend and meet with some players. Hopefully see you at a game before too long.
