Hi all,I`m looking at bringing in a couple of SEG`s from Uncompany. One is a G&P M249.I was wondering if Customs are allowing the AEG`s with V2 gearboxes that have been converted to semi by Uncompany into the country?
I have seen a few SEG`s on Tardme that have V2 gearboxes.
As the M249 is a lot of coin i just wanted to check if V2 conversions get past customs ok.
Thanks in advance :)

UN co won't semi any of the M249's they have in stock.

Before you get anything you should go along to a game and check out your local club, the clubs have armourers that can tell you what you can and can't get and may also be able to help with a lower price, you can also ask to see other peoples guns and try first, V2's are not recommended as customs have stopped a couple that have been converted to semi, where are you based?

I`m based in Oamaru,i work weekends so can`t really get to games.Anyways I pretty much just like collecting for display and the odd bit of plinking^_^.
Currently have full metal MP5SD,AK-47,SR-25,M4A1 and TM PSG-1 but am allways looking to expand my collection :)

It may pay for me to say this now before the thread turns into a flamefest.
We've always had problems with people logging into here asking how to get guns etc. Its in our own interest for the sport to assist those who are joined with clubs and have people to vouch for them.
This is nothing personal against you, its to keep our sport alive and kicking.
Being the internet its not hard for people to come online and claim they have this that and the other.
But anyway, because i'm a generally nice person i figure i'll help out on the topic at hand too.
The Version2 mechbox is finnicky when its converted to semi-auto only. There is NO garuntees that even though you paid for it to be semi, customs may get it and it does a 2-3 shot burst. To customs, thats auto.
We've already had one gun confiscated because of a bad semi. It costs alot of $$ down the drainage hole, to be honest.
*Edit*
Maybe you can find some airsofters local to you and get them to vouch for you?

^^ thought we had been told not to get in V2 until the problem/issues had been sorted ??

It's iffy... from what i can gather you can get a V2 but it's at your own risk and the society and/or armourers WILL NOT give you any support if it gets seized... it's basically a "at your own risk" thing.

as far as im aware you cannot get them thru the club armourer for this reason but that doesnt mean that u cant get them at all as acey said

again its a at your own risk thing.
Our armourer avoids it, as they go to his address, so its his neck on the line.
But to answer the mans question, The society would much rather you to join a club ot get guns in. I realise this isnt really very good for you, but perhaps you should make a few road trips, and get to know a nearby club, either in dunners or chch. That way, we can at least vouch for you some what, and you could possibly order through one of the clubs

At this point we are recomending people dont bring in v2, just in as much as they seem a bit hit & miss on firing semi, as in some have been seized by customs as they still fired fully. Dependant on the stength of the spring & position of cut of lever... some you can hold upside down, or point into the air & they go fully. It is up to you, but I wont be fighting customs for you on v2 if they get nabbed. A case of buyer be wary.

Oh dear, well last thing i want to do is make trouble.Just wanted some advice from those in the know :)

lol your not making trouble, which is great :)
we get a thread like this asking for advice at least once a week. I went to the effort to write up a post that has the same answer we give all of them in it at least 5 times, but none the less they keep asking.
50% are like you, and are civil and often join a club. The other 50% get shitty when we tell them theyre too young, or they think we only want them in clubs to suck them dry of their hard earned cash.
its refreshing to have another good one. its been awhile :)

sorry to hijack but is there a particular brand of gun with v2 that has been stopped by customs on a regular basis or is it a whole range and the problem is a poor job in making them permenantly semi? :(

No V2 gun has been stopped at all
The problem lies in the V2 mechbox's construction, and the way it is made perm semi.
Because of the travelling selector plate, there are many problems that can cause a gun to burst auto when looking at a V2.
One of the more common ones i've seen is a too short spring being used on the selector to account for the lengthened notch in the selector. meaning when the gun is selected to "Auto" the spring actually drops out, making it burst fire.
A few other problems are down to shitty quality control in Chinese mechs
Higher-priced guns tend to be far more reliable. EG G&P G&G ICS etc

bane thats not actually true
there was a time when the SCARs were being stopped, and i think there were others also...these were from the "airsoft arms" or whatever shop that did a piss poor job of semi'ing the guns...they were seized...

I managed to get a SCAR-L through from that dodgey "ARMS AIRSOFT/ Hobby Theoreme~" just as the "semi-flow started, then customs started stoppign all airsoft shit",--- but Dalton's got seized~ the next day, I ordered a G36c from them also, but they ran off with my money the bastards (and I heared he sold them on a hong kong forum so he got double money the c#$&head)
For the selector spring problem, this is from Senza/Daltons discovery, a BIC lighter spring is the perfect diameter and tension, you may just need to cut off a few coils and its good as gold.

Ive oredered a few Version 2 from WGC semi'ed and their service is excellent!\
UNcompany does a fantastic semi mod on their V2 thats quite permanently semi. They removed the spring and cut out most of the top area of the selector plate, added a screw that allows an elastic band to hook onto the disconnector making conversion quite difficult without both the selector and the spring (which is fairly hard to find replacement for).

Yes they do a great job on there V2's, but sadly $30us to remove the selector plate and dump it in the box on there V3's is a bit shitty.

They use an elastic band? man how long can that last for?

springs you can get out of BIC lighters.
But there's a better way to semi a V2 and thats by inserting a small pin into the contact body that slightly "Advances" the traveling contact
This means your disconnecting lever is retained by the contact body and it does not require a spring OR a selector plate, or for that matter, any form of physical retention on the disconnector at all, because theres no way the disconnector can disengage from the contact.
