ok I didnt like the overall colour I wanted darker, so I stripped the varnish off my Tanaka k98, and coated it in boiled linseed oil, though this way it will take longer to darken and more coats of oil, but hey its natrual and looks very cool, some people add turps to the linseed, and scrub with 000 size steel wool..not me!:D heres some pics to start with I'll put more later as it evolves.....
pic 1) original TW colour
pic 2-3) after first coat, though I forgot to take a pic of it sanded back!
pic 4) about 3 good coats later followed by a close up.
now it has had about 10? I think coats, and will do for proberly the next week get maybe 1 coat a day, then 1 a week etc.. so it will darken/redden over time. As you can see I couldnt get the black metal bits off the stock, but no matter....
