hi guys I live in christ church and have only recently discovered the sport it seems like alot of fun as I have played paintball before and obviously they are similar I am really annoyed though because I am only twelve (I think I might have gotten it wrong in the regester form) so I can't play  but I am still interested to watch games and shoot targets (am I even aloud to shoot targets?) and learn rules that sort of thing.

Age is not necesarily a problem, you will need to come out with a parent first time though.

Flick me a PM with your email address & I will get you sorted.

I don't think its a good idea to bring a 12 year old into Airsoft games.

I am thinking of the safety of the minor not the other players.

If he is injured it could open a whole can of worms.

He did say, without prompting, he can't play and asked if it is alright to come and watch, if someone wants to organise something differant then that is up to them but he is only wanting to watch and learn, he should be applauded and encouraged.

seconded.

One of the guys up here lets his now 14-yo son play. He's got a more level-head than many of the 20-30+ people playing, and takes his hits better too.

It's not a matter of being level headed, it's a mater of law. Any underage person must be directly supervised by an adult who themselves is not allowed to be holding an airsoft gun. However i do believe "direct supervision" is fairly loose, else youngins wouldn't be allowed to play paintball. It's a difficult one for us because unlike paintball, our games can get very spread out, and people can sometimes find themselves seperated from the main teams (especialy in our dense field).

However there is nothing stopping them from playing medic in a VC game (as a young fella did for us), being a VIP, or just being an observer in the game.

warscars, welcome to the airsoft forums. Don't let the age old "underage" argument put you off our great sport, and it's great you found us :)

id say most of us under 18s have broken the law countless times then. I know i fired SEG's from a distance longer then within arms reach of an adult. I too think its a great thing that someone so young wants to learn the rules and watch gameplay.

exactly he should be welcomed and made to feel welcome, if you come down on people who want to learn and later become involved they may go away and tell their friends that they shouldn't play airsoft, then those people tell their friends and soon no one will play at all, I mean people usually find out about things like this through word of mouth so why shut people out, he said he can't play but I'm sure with supervision and some good instructions he should be allowed to look and maybe fire a few shots off, not in game of course but in a safe place. welcome to airsoft hope to see you on the field one day!!!

There is quite a long post I made in the Soc forum on what was & wasnt acceptable for underage players. Joe Green explained all this. Underage players can play, they can't own a gun mind. So the gun needs to be owned by an adult & in the hands of a adult for transportation. But direct supervision is deemed to be under the control of a game marshal in an organised sport in a designated area. This applied to shooting ranges for the likes of scouts etc, paintball fields, & us.

As I stated in the Soc forum, it is up to the clubs to decide how they want to handle this. I am fine with sensible young folk playing at my club. Better to have them in the sport than running around unsupervised.

Having read a lot of your posts Adler it seems like you are one of the more intelligent and reasonable people on here, not say there are not others but when it comes to certain issues such is this it proves you are what we need more of in this sport, age = wisdom, (not calling you old!). If more people took your attitude we would progress rather quickly and the sport would flourish. Age should be no barrier within limits and the person should have to prove they have the ability to be mature and not a muppet. the more people we have that can prove that we are not a bunch of nutters with guns is good, Warscars do not be put off if you cop flack for your age it will get better trust us!!

I think a lot of people here can guess my opinion on the matter, so I won't bother typing out another post which is likely to draw criticism and argument.

I think Sgt Ben is being a tad PC. There's nothing wrong with a minor playing airsoft. As long as his club is cool with it, and he has made arrangements concerning his guns, then he should be allowed to play.

Think of it this way. He's 12, it's pretty fair to assume he knows little about gun handling and safety beyond anything his male role models have tought him. Why not go for win and make sure that you are happy with his gun safety rules because you taught him?
Plus, nothing makes you feel like big people than watching men doing impressions of "platoon", hehe.

All i can see is this thread having a bug bunch of hes too young, or its good to have young members. Perhaps it should be left in Adlers hands, as he has his club that will accept him if he can show reasonable maturity. No matter what people say, im assuming Adler will carry on with his club and rules (good on him). So no point bitching about it anymore, as the same stuff happens everytime someone under 16, sometimes 18 shows an interest.

what I meant when I said can't play was I didn't think I legally could play
yes I have handeld and used guns before and am very sensible with them
but could any one tell me where on this site I could find the rules of airsoft

ADLER

Each club has their own rules War, and ultimately, as long as we dont break the Governments uber rules, we are free to do what want. There is a National body of airsoft clubs that advise & negotiate with the Government, plus they have a few rules that all the clubs agree to.

Now there are 3 clubs in Christchurch. Currently, via their constitutions, only 1 is able to have >18 (or 16 with a firearms licence) year olds play. That is my club.

We are just starting out, had our first game last weekend, had 4 lasses & 8 lads running around the field having great fun. More troops scheduled for this weekend, should be around the 20 mark. Including one of the sons of one of our players, who I think is around your age.

All I require is your parent(s) come out first with you & have a look at what is involved & make sure they are happy with you running around with us, plus give us a chance to see that we are happy to run around with you. Plus your folks need to sign off on some paperwork.

We play Sundays, 10am until around 4pm behind the Ultimate Game Paintball field. If you get me your email address I can send you our rules & a map etc.

Since its legal it is up to each club. I personally stand on the stance if you cant own a gun then you shouldnt be there. There are a couple exceptions with father/sons attending and in my eyes thats fine because then the father is 100% responsible for the son and his actions.

I guess this has come from my younger duck shooting and deer hunting days!

all of us under 18's walk on shaky ground wen it cums to playing airsoft. but with all due respect to the over 18's sum younger players are more mature than u guys....but im guesing thats simply because theyre trying to prove that they are capable of playing a sport that well in relality they(me)shouldnt be playing...i say let him watch and learn..try out the uns etc etc.in the end its up to the club in the area hes in. but if he learns all his stuff now imagine wat an awesome airsoft player hell be in the future

Here's another thought for the mix...

what would you rather have?

a 12 year old playign a sport within the confines of a club?

or

a 12 year old running round the nieghbourhood or backyard with an airsoft rifle?

At least within the confines of a club he'll get to understanding the rules/laws that govern us.

Although on a personal note.... As a parental type person I do have a little problem with shooting someone that's 12... Even if there are some little pricks out there that could do with one

My observations from my first club game were that there was a very interesting culture growing. It was the first game I have ever played with a significant number of ladies on the field, plus a good number of new folk. I observed people being remakably sensible & gallant. If it was a seasoned player they where shooting, they got the rough love, if it was a lass or new player, folk gave them the extra mile, shot the shoe etc. I imagine the same will probably ring true for younger folk.

I was quite pleased, as this all happened spontaneously without having to legislate it. I think my sensible rules & comon sense approach my have some merit, but its early days yet & I am watching with an interested eye to see how it goes.

In the big scheme of things, I armed up my brothers at 8 years old. Its the standard birthday present in my family. With good instruction & a safe place to play, you will be surprised at what these little ferrets can do. Anyone who has played with my brothers now that they are in their twenties can probably vouch for their abilities as airsoft players. I started at 14 myself, left my run a bit late :D

Sport Airsoft is its name. I have two folk that will be our Armourers, but I am still waiting for the Society to accept our application. So they are "in nomine" Armourers at present. We are importing guns under my name at present until things get settled. I still seem to have some coin with Customs/Police for my actions in getting the Soc started so we are well placed whilst we wait.

Just remember to bring some lunch & water, as it gets a bit hot out there under the sun. Be assured we will put you to good use. :D

I have PM'd you my phone number if your folks want to have a yarn with me on what is involved etc. And thanks to Chaos, we have an excellent waiver for them to sign. I have a full face mask you can use also to keep your teeth in.

We play the same place CSG do on most Saturdays, The Ultimate Game Paintball field, but we play Sunday, 10am (that is actually when we start, so dont go showing up at 1pm ;) ) This is our tempory field until the new year. There are no field fees whilst the field is free. Steve was kind enough to let us use it for free, so I aint going to abuse that by profiteering. If you have spare gun that you can loan, please bring it, my biggest problem is juggling who can come out with the new folk as I dont have enough guns. Had to 'delay' a bunch last week.

Have a read of the rules thread http://airsoft.net.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=3270 as there are significant differences between what I am trying to achieve & what CSG do. Short of that, bring your happy face & you are more than welcome. Its a good new crew, well mostly new, there are a few folk from the ancient days, plus some ones that left when the TAG/CSG fracas happened etc... its quite exciting actually, a good mix. Really enjoying building something from scratch without the 'dramas' & bagage... cant wait till Sunday!!!

Bubby

alrighty...

I'll have a read and pop on out.

I'll have to check your fps limits as I have one gun doing 312 and the other is doing 380. Actually I can chuck a velocity reducer on that so should be fine...

so yes I have a "spare" one that can be borrowed.

hey guys. im in auckland and 15(for the next few days) but then i have to wait 3 months to get my firearms license. i wish i was in chch becuase i would be able to play. i have gone to a few ASA games but there rules are that you can only play if you are of legalage to own and airsoft gun. the only exception is if a player brings there son or duaghter. then they can play. the only problem ismy dad is in his 40 and running around shooting other isnt on his plate. he has no problem with me participating but he has no interest in playing. which absolutly sucks. but m counting down the days and spending long ours in bed to make time go quicker.
