View Full Version : Import laws with red tip?

I have several guns that I am wanting to bring over on my final move into the country. What I need to know is:
Do the guns being imported have to have spray painted tips on the barrel or can I just tape up the ends with an orange tape? I don't want to break any laws and have the guns taken from me. I need to know if they want a more permanent form of barrel marking or not.
Also I noticed that you guys do not have a guns for sale section any more. Is the selling and trading of guns in NZ now banned?
Thanks in advance,
Robert

Hey Rob,
over here were not required to have any sort of permanent barrel markings. So as far as spray painting/taping goes, i wouldn't bother. However you might need your barrel marked in order to get you airsoft guns out of your country if the laws in your country say you need a red/orange tip.
As for the selling/trading of airsoft guns goes, We use an armourer system. Where by once your a member of an ASNZ Club you can buy guns through the club armourer and sell your guns on the asnz forums.
And just incase your dont know this already, Our laws only let us own/use Semi automatic airsoft guns. So you will need to get all your guns made semi auto in order to get them passed our customs.
where abouts in new zealand are you moving to? Because there are airsoft clubs everywhere in NZ, so would suggest getting in touch with your local club soon as so you can get playing :D
Hope that helps.

I have posted on the forum before. A couple months ago I had posted asking a few general knowledge questions about the laws (semi only) and such. Now since the move is coming closer and closer (we should be leaving the U.S. by the end of March) I need to get down to the fine print, hence my question on the red barrel.
As far as where we are moving I am not sure since it is not set in stone. We are opening an Esquires coffee house and the company has given us several choices as to where we can open one up. It is down to Wellington, Palmerston, and ChristChurch.
I have a few rifles that I am having a hard time parting out in the States and wanted to make sure trading/selling was legal. I have a couple of rare guns that are unusual in the States and maybe in NZ as well that I am trying to part with.
Thanks for the help,
Robert
what sorta guns? just out of curiosity

I have a custom made M1 Garand (TM M14 conversion)
King Arms Dragunov with real steel scope
Tanaka M10 Revolver
CAW M79 Grenade Launcher (real wood version)
Highly upgraded TM VSR-10 G-Spec
Those are just the ones that are a little sparse
bane is DEFINITELY going to love you.
Just make sure that the M14 is unable to go Full Auto and you should be fine.
leave a slightly charged battery with it so customs can have a quick test and they should be happy :)
Can you move up to auckland?
*Edit*
Crap.. wege correct me if i am wrong but arent gas grenades prohibited now?

Will the removal of the selector switch be good enough if it is set to semi or do I have to go into the gun and totally remove the full auto capability?
Also check out most of my guns on youtube
Just search youtube with the word: ramborob17
for the M14 just remove the selector switch and arm completely
And dont try and do a sneaky and hide it in your luggage :P throw it right away

Lol I wont try and hide it. The last thing I am trying to do is go into a country and day one break a series of laws just trying to import an airsoft gun.
I am guessing you are in Auckland Bane?
Yeah. Not the greatest place in the world. but shifting down to Chch or Welly is out of my budget :P

I think should idolize you. Ok, maybe not, but I also play Wow and airsoft.
Come to Christchurch and join the club I'm in!
i think those shot shell grenades may still be legal.. just? but the OTHER ones from Airsoft Innovations appear to be on the Verboten list.

Also I do play WoW but my other hobbies consist of airsoft (that's a gimme), WWII reenacting, real steel shooting, and I also play competitive paintball

Thanks, the last Yank that came over & did that pissed airsoft up right royal in NZ, he is the reason we all have to play semi now.

Oh definately come to Christchurch then! BTW we drink lots of coffee here. :D 3 clubs to choose from, that play every weekend. Plus we have the most German Re-enactors in airsoft down here... so you will have something to shoot. :D

Sorry to hear about us Americans giving you guys a hard way to go. But that's what must of us do over here I guess *rolls eyes* sticking our nose into everyone's business and expecting everyone to lay back and take our crap. The way Americans act over here both in the citizen and government is one of the reasons why we want to move to NZ and get away from it.
Also I do and American impression but have been wanting to start a German. I think it would be so much fun. Plus the German uniforms look much more impressive then our plain old American drab :-P

You will NZ, we are like NY'ers but with out the lip. But I think Texas was where I felt most at home, but we arent so big on the hats & gater skin boots here. We keep it real. Did a year in the states, great place to visit, nice place to leave.

Fuck, i dare them to go anywhere where there is a vast majority of non caucasions. Good video of them on youtube either walking past a protest to get somewhere (court?) or protesting themselves. Some old fella goes up and gives one guy a nice wee hook.
With the orange cap, is the barrel tip painted or is it something you add on?

You do realise that the last picture is quite possibly of a spanish religious festival? They happen to wear the same sort of hood etc as the KKK do, hence the confusion.

well the red on the sign hanging from the neck suggests to me its most likely klan members.

Doesn't look like a Klan symbol Kronos. Their symbol is a white cross within a red circle, not to metion the photo doesn't actually look like a cross.
I don't remember ever seeing the KKK wearing silk hoods and purple/blue cloaks. Seems rather odd eh?
Anyway, this thread has far outlived its purpose.

ill pm you a red symbol they use, as this thread is getting off topic. Although you make a great point with the silk hoods.

These look like Rosicrucians to me, or the Order of Santiago. Didnt they even feature in the open scenes of Da Vinchi Code? So given they probably arent racists, they probably still wouldnt be safe in South Auckland though.
On the orange tip thing, I have had to get the orange tip added to BB guns I brought from the states so that they could leave the country.
yeah the KKK tend to wear ALL white.. white hood white robes.. and no KKK member could possibly cut the eyeholes on the same level..

Hey rambo my advice would be to stay away form palmy as there's not enough people to support the cafe's we already have, alot aren't doing so well(i work for a business that supplies foodstuffs to cafes/resturants), best bet would be welly as theres more people/tourists there than palmy/chch. Oh and theres a good bunch of airsofters there :P

mind you Auckland are the latte crowd.

Lol you guys are pretty entertaining talking about the KKK and New Zealand Cities and Aussie convicts :P
What kind of rifles are popular in NZ? Do gas rifles (M1 Garands, Tanakas etc etc) function well down there?
Oh yes! Yes they do. Myself and Adler have a few Tanakas between us. In fact one of them actually came pretty close to coming between us...:D:D:D

I have been thinking about investing in either a Marushin M1 Garand or a Tanaka K98. I just want to make sure they will function alright down there. I know that there are only a few states here that has the suitable climate for constant usage of gas rifles.

Judging by how many people rock 500fps+ K98's, I think they work fine here in New Zealand
God - did that Kar98k thing get started to be sorted?

The M1 Garands have proved problematic here. Not an environment thing, just the guns seem to always have troubles. I have seen 3 now make 1 off apearences on the field, only to be never seen again.

I gotcha. It seems like people have complained alott about the M1s over here as well. They just blame it on the weather. I might try and find me a Kar98. I think another gas bolt action would be nice to have

Also, does anyone know if the grenade launchers are illegal? I have a CAW M79 and might be trading one of my AEGs for a CAW 6 shot
Whatever you do, dont go to palmy :) rock wellys or chch.
I would advise, at this point in time, to not bring a CAW and the grenades down here.

We do but every so often customs decides to throw a spanner in the works, 3 months ago no problem then all of a sudden they decide they don't like them, we are waiting for an all clear before we bring them in again.

Well since your over 18 it wont be a problem with importing them, but if you were still 17 at the time your parents would have to declare them as thier posessions, due to the fact that airguns require a firearms licence in nz to all under 18's. Which is bs
