View Full Version : Best sniper for $
ok guys, I have a guy asking for the best option for a sniper at a reasonable price.
he is happy to add some upgrades to get it up to scratch.
he wants bipod,scope
I would assume spring not gas, but you can convert me.
so maximum power, max accuracy
I have never owned one so lets hear whats the way to go.
if you can't tell me the best, then tell me what not to get and why?

Well for the price the warrior L96 aint too bad, especially for a first sniper rifle. Just over $200 for a reasonably accurate gun doing 450 out of the box. Not very upgradeable and a little bulky.
I hear good things about the JG bar -10 as well and is more upgradable. That is also quite cheap I haven't owned one though so cant comment on performance.
out of the box the warrior is the better one.
Better cocking for sure.
they are upgradeable, but you have to look for some of the parts (when I say upgradeable, I mean there are replacement parts for a fair bit of it.. just not all of it, from memory)
The cocking of the Bar 10 is much definitely harder, and not as powerful when it comes to the launching of the BB.
I think straight out of the box, the l96 clone.
With work and work then the bar10 from JG.

with work?
i'd disagree with you there wege...my Bar10 was doing about 360 out of the box accurately, i cut the air-brake, and got it to 425 with no cost. the cocking is definitely not what i'd call hard, it would be comparable to the L96s that i had a play with in nelson one trip (Faz, Looseunit etc all got them in for a trial)
the Bar10 is quite definitely the best gun i have bought so far. i threw in a more accurate barrel and using 0.28g bb's it seems to go forever and a day, and in a perfectly stupid flat line ;)

yeh that gun of your squirral was nice at nats. Really it would be either that or a warrior. The warrior comes with a bipod which is cool.

The warrior with scope and bipod is a heavy unit, how much does the Bar 10 weigh?

"Tubes" from NAC has purchased the JG BAr 10 G spec.
At first, it was about 330 Fps and cocking was hard.
I pulled it a part, greased here, siliconed there checked everything was tight where it was supposed to be and the cocking improved enormously and power went up to about the 360 mark (350's)
So at first the cocking was awful and sticky, but its just as nice as my stock TM gspec now.
And Cheap!!!

2kgs or around there. most the weight is in the scope tbh. i had to put some lead in the ass end just felt far too light
the thing is better than a standard upgraded TM Gspec to pull I agree. but he was talking Out of the Box... un modded.
You have described modded/blueprinted.. :)

I have read that 1 version of the L96 takes VSR parts so can be upgraded with these

i believe the China L96 is accurate enuf ... with the right weight of BBs that is as my one is currently inaccurate with 0.25s as its currently shooting at least 450 ... and when firing, i even saw the BB flight waivering left-right before it arrived at the target ... so its got enuf power behind it to upset lighter BBs
One of the guys had a BAR10 last sat. Did the same with the airbrake. Must admit for a cheap gun it was quite consistent and definitely not hard on the pull.
Its really down to the persons preference though. If they want a gun thats got some balls to it, L96, if they want one thats all practical, Bar10
the warrior l96 I think is the best out of the box (best all round)

probably true
you can get the BAR10 standard (like mine) or the GSpec clone (like the one tony posted)
the warrior comes in three different models, one with the gun, one with added bipod, and the other with both bipod and scope. yes that probably is the best gun out of the box if you're planning to not bother changing anything. then again who wants a new person out playing with a 450 fps rifle haha

Dont get the bipod - save the money and buy more upgrades that are of use.

The gen 2 warriors have fixed the trigger sears problem. Ive never had an issue.

Its more the plastic around the sears that break. Well that I have noticed anyways.

The JG bar 10 G spec that the Nelson boy has does not perform any where near as well as a TM one. I own a l96 warrior and a TM VSR (slightly upgraded) and have fired the JG Bar 10.
The l96 is fairly bulky and has average accuracy, but its fps of 420 is to high for Noobs.
The Bar 10 g spec is light, cheap and has average accuracy. But is no good for noobs as it may need immediate maintanence.
The Tokyo Marui VSR gspec is perfect for Noobs with its low fps and reliability, as long as you don't upgrade anything. It comes assembled (I think) and provides a weapon perfect for learning with.
I would pick the TM VSR Gspec. In fact a stock 280fps TM VSR Gspec is sooo quite, making it far more useful then my slightly nosier upgraded VSR any day.

zimmer, i'd suggest you pull the hop up apart and clean it out, it may be gunked up with original factory juice
mine was fortunately not, and was just insanely good out of the box...my TM one didnt compare to it. the 'better barrel' i got was $26US deep fire 6.04mm and then i noticed i can get the same brand but 6.01mm for the same price! so thats next...although it is insanely accurate now
when you tape up the nozzle a little so you have a tighter airseal into the hop unit it goes somewhere between 450 and 500 fps...but you need to constantly replace the damn tape haha...i got rid of it cos its just not necessary...may look at some other method of tightening up the gap without something moveable like tape
any ideas?
some sort of glue or something? like a very thing coat of it or something?
