hi just a little question
obviously guns are a lot cheaper in the usa so can you import them even if they are fully automatic with a semi auto setting?
cheers james

Club armourer will source guns for you and he will semi them, it sounds like these guys really take the hassle out of buying your guns.

The importation of automatic "capable" weapons is illegal and will result in their confiscation. All weapons must be capable of semi automatic fire only to be imported or owned and used in New Zealand. There are no exceptions. Modifying it to semi once it is here is not a legal option, it must be done overseas. Join a local club and the Armourer can help with this.

ok thanks very much for the advice guys. what sort of price are m4/ mp5s going for over here? Through a club armourer the price of weapons are almost the same as advertised on overseas sites (plus postage and a small cost to semi)

ok so i asked the in my other forum but if i was new to game they said i couldnt use a rifle. is there anyway around this like under a certain amount of fps. i quite like the look of Swiss Arms Black Eagle M6 Bolt Action with a 328FPS would this be ok?
Best to discuss to the armorers when the time comes to buy a gun, as they are able to give you an accurate idea of what you will be paying.
Joining a club and trying the guns out for yourself is the best option before you consider price ;)
But a budget of $500 approx per gun should set you right
*Edit*
The reason why they say start with a pistol is simple.
Alot of the rifles out there can cause SERIOUS damage to somebody if not used correctly.

Generally the reason clubs will not allow new players to use high powered weapons is that they have not (generalising here) yet learnt what damage a Airsoft weapon can do and what minimum ranges are enforced by the club. New players tend to shoot when they see a target, especially if they are under fire and the target is rushing at them, there is no time to think, you act automatically and pulling thetrigger is usually the first reaction. This can be dangerous and result in some angry people on therecieving end. Weapons upto 320ish fps are considered acceptable for new players (some clubs limits vary) to learn these skills as the risk of damage or injuries to others is minimised. The risks do not dissappear but they become managable and the risk of damage is minimised.
So Genarally speaking a weapon round 300fps will usually be acceptable but please refer to club members wherever you intend to play and check with them first.

to start the game with an ok sort of kit what sort of money will i be looking at?Again it really varies depending on what you want in the way of gear. Whether you want authentic uniforms and webbing or imitation. If you want basic kit then you could spend $500 and be ready to play including eye protection, camoflague, webbing or a vest, boots and a pistol. Of course there is no limit to how much you can spend if you have the money as many people here can testify too.

how much $$$ will i be looking at?As I said it varies, if you want no camo, vest or boots you could buy a pistol for say $250 and a face mask for $50 so you could be going for $300. There is no upper figure, your bank balance is all that stops you spending more.

Depends on how much you are willing/got to spend.
When i first started, all i had was mis-matched BDU(Battel dress uniforms) and i still use that to this day.
And that was like $30 off a mate.
So it all depends really.
But gear to start off with start from $150 to $$$$ (Skys the limit)

Hey Mauser, I myself made a price list the other day. I'm selling my paintballl gear to get into this, so obviously I have a bit of a head start on things. Here's what I threw together after some research. That totalled $1500, but I am pretty damn sure you could get by with without most of my list :D
Obviously, it all depends on what you want. If it wasn't for my love of buying this kind of crap, I would be able to get by with probably what the guy above mentioned.

is it best to start with a pistol?A pistol is by far the best choice to start. At a later date when you progress to other weapons then you still have the pistol as a back up and as anyone here can tell you, they still get used when targets are too close or something goes wrong with your primary. A pistol is the best way to go to start.

In my honest opinion, i highly recommend the Tokyo Mauri VSR10 Gspec to start off with.
As it will develop all the skills needed.
And it is hands down the best starter airsoft gun.
Its 300fps, but it will be able to get 50m kills with it.

The key is to define what you need and what you WANT.
Need:
BDU
Suitable Eye/face protection.
Boots
Want:
Vest
Camelback
Pouches.
etc.
The Tokyo Mauri VSR10 Gspec is about $275 NZD
But you would want to start saving/getting a job, to fund your kit later on.

I run around in a great practical kit that does the trick great and it cost me the following, including the price of the new gun I have coming.
BDU+ hat= 60(i got mates rates, budget around 100)
Boots= 100
vest= 100
camelback=80
pistol =120 (2nd hand)
long arm= 250
Glasses= free cause I know people in the know:P
Thats just over 700. you could get shit cheaper than that, I go outta my way to only use russian gears and things, cause I like my kit to suit a theme. Theres other small things I didnt include, gloves, camo paint, insect repellent, my other 3 sets of bdus etc
It can cost more if you dont know how to shop around. I spent alot of time surfing dozerns of sites etc till I find the best deal, being a tight arsed student and all. Theres a bit of skill involved in being a tight arse

Yay time for me to be an old man..... I'll give ya some advice....
Before you make any decisions on anything go to a club game and have a look/feel/play with everyone else's stuff. Thats the way I did it and boy am I glad I did, as I found I like playing with just camo, gun and a couple of mags in my pockets.... no sidearms, no vests, no hydration systems, no expensive boots(in fact the ones i have now are 3 sizes to big and offer no support what so ever :P ), no well anything extra really :) and I sure saved a lot of money by not going out and buying heaps of stuff I would have ended up not using.

Look dude, seriously dont go looking to buy a gun until you have been to a few games. You will find other guns that take your fancy mroe or guys will tell you ofbetter deals than you can find on your own.
Contact your nearest club and go play once twice hell five times, then choose a gun.
that way you have longer to save :)

No worries man. Its easier to make judgment that way.
On here, Amoki might tell you to get some flashy CIRAS vest. you may buy it and find that you prefer my V95 vest that costs half as much. Or lets say Easy tells you to get a certain brand of goggles only for you to discover after your first game that you preferred the loaner safety glasses you got.
End of the day its this simple, until you have fondled something yourself, you cant make a choice on it. So dont.
And everyone who already plays think they have the best loadout, so of course theyre gonna tell you to get what they use :P
(This post is not an accurate representation of the preferences of the players mentioned, and the views held within this post are by no means the views of the respective players :P)

What Adrian said. You REALLY REALLY need to have a hold on a SEG/spring sniper rifle, fire a few hundred rounds (with people firing back at you), and find out what you need/want before you buy stuff. Who knows you might even ditch the DE in favour of a Glock/SiG/USP/1911-type , etc. which will affect your choice of holster, etc. Pays to budget for it, but you don't have to spend it.
That's the most economical way to go around doing things anyway if you want to spend the least amount of money to get to your most ideal setup. For some the idea of an ideal setup is a man with a $50 webbing and a pair of running shoes , while for others the idea setup is nothing short of a USMC Force Recon in FSBE II kit with matching tan MICH 2000 helmet, Land CIRAS, Safariland holster and tan Suede boots. :)
but, at the same time, the lessons learned hardest are often the best lessons learned longest.
Edit.. Amoki..
I would not have thought that those boots would have been practical for airsoft.. but.. oh well. whatever floats ya boats..

I 1000% totally disagree with this. Don't start with a bolt action rifle.
You will almost certainly [like the 95% other guys that start airsofting thinking that they can be the world best sniper] get real bored as you don't have the skills and / or patience required to use a bolt action properly.
Bolt actions are hard work. It may well develop the skills you need, but not before you are totally demoralised from being constantly owned by s-aegs.
Start with a gas blow back pistol, ask to test other peoples guns at games and decide what you want to use after a few games.
DO NOT LISTEN to Snake here [ :p ], he is a excellent sniper that has been playing for ages and therefore has probably forgotten what it was like to be a n00b starting out.
